31st Year of MKDS Going Strong!

Ms. Karen's Dance Studio's 31st year is going strong and as we approach the ringing in of the new year we want to thank all our dance families for sharing your precious children with us.

Classes began in September with some exciting additions to our recreational class schedule and welcoming the 2018-2019 Company back to classes.

After three of our teachers traveled to Dallas, TX in June to become certified in the Acrobatic Arts curriculum, we added a Level 1-3 and Level 4-6 class.  It is exciting to see our dancers improve their skills in acrobatics, strength and flexibility.

In addition we added Showstoppers to our Monday night recreational rotation.  This class is geared toward dancers ages 7-9 and focuses on instruction in tap, jazz and hip-hop as well as acrobatics and musical theatre.

Providing our students with dance instruction is only part of the mission at Ms. Karen's Dance Studio.  This fall we have served the Central Arkansas community in a variety of ways.

In September, we celebrated School Spirit Week which raised money for dancer, Kinley Dill's school, The Hannah School.  Students provided monetary donations to come to class dressed to rep their school.   We were honored to support not only Kinley but all of the students at The Hannah School!

In October, we instituted PJ for Tata's week. Students donated money to Susan G. Koman, and sported their favorite PJ's during class. Additionally, Ashley Stephens, mom to dancers, Avery and Lilly came and spoke to our teen and senior dancers.

During the Thanksgiving holiday, we were honored to serve lunch at Arkansas Enterprises for the Developmentally Disabled.

December is our favorite time of year at Ms. Karen's Dance Studio!  We began the month with our Company Christmas Party.  Dancers participated in a Christmas themed dress-up and choreography contest led by our seniors and we roasted s'mores.  Our senior dancers also announced the Big Sis/Lil Sis pairings for the competition season. The Big Sis/Lil Sis program provides an opportunity to develop relationships among our dancers and their families.

We continued to spread Christmas cheer with our Christmas Showcase at Lakewood Village with donated toys going to support our Angel Tree program.  In addition, our amazing dance families adopted and provided Christmas for 35 angels.  Our tiniest dancers performed at Arkansas Children's Hospital and the State Capitol and our recreational classes enjoyed performing for our neighbors at the Parkstone and Foxridge retirement communities.

We are excited to see our dancers back in class the week of January 7th and continuing the 31st year of Ms. Karen's Dance Studio!

From all of the staff at MKDS, Happy New Year!
