"20 Years of Praise: God In Me"
Recital 2008
Robinson Center Music Hall - Little Rock, AR

Recital I: Friday, June 20, 2007
Recital II: Saturday, June 21, 2007

Our Recital this year will be 2 days, with 1 Act on Friday and 2 Acts on Saturday. There will be an intermission after Act I both days which allows time for dressing room changes. By having 2 Acts, this will help our crowded dressing room situation, and allow the little ones less time backstage. We will only have a Finale after the Recital on Friday and after Act II on Saturday. If you wish to participate in the Finale, and you danced in Act I on Saturday, you must stay for Act II. I strongly urge everyone to observe all Acts if at all possible, and to participate in the Finale. Every group has worked really, hard, and "MKDS "20 Years of Praise: God in Me" promises to be our best show yet!

When you arrive at Robinson Center Music Hall, I suggest you park in the parking deck (bring parking money) and proceed to the Music Hall. There will be signs posted showing where the dressing rooms are located, and lots of helpful volunteers to guide you. Please allow plenty of time to reach the Robinson Center from North Little Rock or other areas - at least 30 minutes.

The awards ceremony is scheduled to begin at 4:30 p.m. on Friday, and the Recital will begin promptly at 6:00 p.m. Everyone should be in FULL COSTUME, with hair and make-up complete. When you arrive for Recital, please escort your little darling to their assigned dressing room, then enter the Music Hall from the lobby entrance. PLEASE DO NOT USE THE SIDE DOORS TO ENTER OR EXIT THE AUDITORIUM! Every class will have at least one volunteer mom supervising them.

Recital II, Act I will begin at 4:00 p.m. on Saturday. Please arrive no later than 3:30 p.m., and proceed backstage to your assigned dressing room. There will be an intermission before Act II, and Act II will begin at 6:30 p.m. If you are only an Act II performer, please arrive no later than 6:00 p.m., and wait until the intermission to find your assigned dressing room. Parents, please leave your children backstage for their Act. This helps eliminate audience disturbance of bringing children in and out of dressing rooms. If a student is participating in both Acts, they must remain backstage for the entire Recital on Saturday!!

Please let me know as soon as possible if you would like to "volunteer" backstage during the Recitals. It is a unique and wonderful experience that everyone should enjoy at least once. I am so very grateful for all of you that help every year. We could not have a show without your help! Please sign up at the front desk if you wish to volunteer. A special meeting will be held Tuesday, June 10th at 6:00 p.m. to organize the backstage zoo! Volunteers will receive Free Registration next Fall!

All performers must wear a cover-up over their costume outside of the dressing room area. Also, there should be absolutely no tap shoes running around the auditorium or lobby area. I really need the parents' help in this matter - I do not want unsupervised children running all around during the Recitals. Please help out by ensuring your children are under constant supervision. Thanks!

The order of routines for both Recitals are listed here. During the intermission between Acts on Saturday, all Act I performers are free to go sit in the audience to watch Act II, or they may leave and go home. Please remember that in order to participate in the Finale, you must stay through Act II, and come backstage before the Finale begins in order to get in your line-up!!

Make-up should be very basic. Please use pink shades of blush and reddish-pink lipstick, with plum and brown shades of eyeshadow. Please do not use blue or light purple eye shadow, or pale lipstick. This will only make the dancers look washed out onstage.

Please label EVERYTHING, especially shoes! It is very important to have the student's name on the inside of their shoes.

A description of all the accessories that you need for your costume is listed here. This list tells you what shoes, tights, head piece, shoe bows, and hairstyle to wear so that the whole class will match!

Some costumes may come with shoe ties already made, however, many did not! We will be making those shoe bows and supplying them to all the parents during Picture Week.

If your child needs tights, we recommend The Shoe Center in Lakewood Village.

If you are confused about any of the hairstyles, please ask! It's very important that everyone has the same hairstyle for their class.

Certificates and Trophies will be presented at an awards ceremony preceding Recital I at 4:30 p.m. on Friday, June 22nd. Please help me by signing up on the appropriate poster in the lobby designating the number of years that you have taken from Ms. Karen's Dance Studio (at any location). Certificates are given to those who have been with the studio for 3 years, and trophies are given to those students who have taken from the studio 4 or more years. Signing up is your responsibility - we can only recognize those students who have signed up on the posters. Deadline for signing up is June 1st.

Since there will be no Dress Rehearsal this year, parents are welcome to videotape THEIR CHILD'S ROUTINE(S) ONLY from designated areas in the mezzanine of the auditorium only. Also, there will be NO FLASH PHOTOGRAPHY at any time during the recitals. If you wish to purchase a video of the entire Recital, please see the enclosed information from VideoMasters, the company that will be filming professional videos at the Recital. Again, no videotaping outside the designated areas, and no flash photography. Thanks!!

Please make a special effort to have your child present at every dance class! Absences really hurt the entire group's performance.

Many of you have asked about admission to the Dance Recitals - there is no charge for admission, but their will be a small charge for the Recital Program. The programs are beautiful keepsakes for your child, especially if you put an ad in the program for them! Ad order forms are enclosed in this packet, and more will be available at the front desk. Out dance recitals are for OU, the parents, relatives and friends, to show you what the students have accomplished in their year of hard work! I am so very proud of each and every student, and it is my personal prayer that each of you will be richly blessed by participating in our Recitals. Thank you so much for being so cooperative, supportive, and helpful to me and my wonderful staff. "MKDS "20 Years of Praise: God in Me" should be our best Recital yet!
In His Name,
Ms. Karen
